Happy St. Patrick's Day
Let me say right up front that I am not Irish. But yesterday Dale and I went to the St. Patrick's Day parade in Boston and everybody's Irish at the parade. It was really fun and I have the pictures to prove it.

It's not a parade without bagpipes. Lots and lots of bagpipes.

The dragon was very cool and they swooped and danced down the street.

We saw our friends from the 22nd Mass Voluntary Infantry. We used to march in the parade with them. I've decided that watching the parade is way more fun than marching in it.

This is the cop who kept everyone in line. Seriously, he spent the whole time keeping the people to my left back up on the sidewalk because they kept wandering out into the street. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to attend parades, you know?

Of course the Clydesdales were there. Too bad they don't give out free samples of beer.

I think my favorite site of the day was this giant Guinness.

No Dropkick Murphy's this year but The Gobshites were pretty good.

Reenactors of a different era.

The Shriners had this really cool car that did wheelies.

This one is for Dave. I'll call it St. Patrick's Day Asswatch.
After the parade we headed over to Fanueil Hall for a pint or three of Guinness.

Happy St. Patrick's Day from all of us at Carole Knits!

That looks like so much fun!!

Aren't Dave & I still unwelcome at that parade? Such a shame, and I *am* Irish (well, lots of me, anyway).

Same to you from me! Is it just me or is that cop pretty cute??

It looks like you had a really fun time! Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of you, too.

Sounds like lots of fun, especially the last part.

Happy St Pat's! Looks like you had a blast.

I'm so not Irish that I didn't even realize it was St. Patrick's Day. I'll be sure to wear something green today.

The local news did a report on the crowd at the parade. No one they interviewed was sober!

Happy St. Patty's Day! The Boston parade looks more fun and laid-back (well, except for the cop) than the NYC parades.

Ah, and top o' the morning to you!
Here in Louisiana people wander toward the street because all the floats throw goodies (beads, candy, trinkets). Hence, "Throw me somethin', Mister!"
It isn't just Mardi Gras; 4th of July parades, Earth Day parades, anything is an excuse to go catch goodies. Today I am sure there are green beads wound around the telephone lines along the parade route from Saturday's St. Patrick's parade.

Great pics! Looks like lots of fun! Did you get to see the Cycling Murry's? They were my neighbors, growing up.

I miss the St. Patty's day parades! Growing up in Lynn, there was always a huge parade....up her in Yankee land....no parades :(

I missed yesterday's celebrations (doing homework) but Thom went to the annual politicians' breakfast in Southie. We might catch the parade in his hometown, which is next weekend.

I'll have to stop by the store and pick up more Guinness on the way home tonight - thanks for the reminder!
Have you ever had an Irish Car Bomb? Yum!
Posted by: elizabeth at March 17, 2008 10:36 AM
I feel like I was there, without having to stand out in the cold. Thanks!

Hmmmm, I'm looking forward to some corned beef and cabbage later, hopefully. Boston would be THE PLACE to spend St. Patty's Day. You know how to do it up well!

Looks like fun!
Posted by: Julie at March 17, 2008 11:13 AM
I agree - watching is so much more fun than marching in (grin) Looks like it was a great time.

Top o' the mornin' to ye, darlin'! No, I'm not Irish either, 'cept maybe a very tiny bit, but I can fake it. Love the Gobshites.

ummmm...had a total craving for a pint of guinness on tap.

I was talking with some guy from Denver this morning (must have been about 9:30 their time) and he asked me "It's 11am there. Are you drunk already?" And then he said "Yeah, I'm working on it." Wha...

Oh the big city life! What does her butt say? So, were they Irish bagpipes? I grew up in Wilmington (some 20 miles north of Boston), and the minutemen would march in parades and even off to Lexington.

It's hard to live in French-Canadian country; no St. Patty's day parade! Looks like you had fun.
By the way, your shawl is beautiful.

Thanks for the view from my Grandparent's hometown parade. My Gramps was full Irish --- James Caffrey.
I think my Irish heritage is the reason I love bagpipes.
My son is very lucky this summer he is off to see Ireland, England and Scotland with a group of students -- me I have never ventured outside the US -- but one day I will.

Fun! But a dragon? For St. Patrick's Day? What's the story there?
Happy St. Patrick's Day! :)

Well, I will have to admit that I wimped out of the parade here - it was too wet and raw. We went to see Horton Hears a Who instead and judging by how crowded the theater was, lots of other people had the same idea.
I did have my corned beef and cabbage though - but no green beer. :)

Hope you had a good holiday yesterday! We had the family over for the traditional 'boiled dinner' and I attempted soda bread for the first time. It was a good day! :o)

We went to the Murphy's Saturday show and it was so much fun.
It seems like you guys had a great time at the parade. It seems like Dale didn't have to crack out his can of whoop-ass like the "other" parade you guys attended last year.

I love parades---and the Dropkick Murphys? WOW. Very cool. And I loves me some Flogging Molly, too.

That looks like so much fun. I celebrated St. Patty's day by spinning the green wool you sent me at my new spinning group. Next year I'll have to suggest a pub though instead of Starbucks.
