Dale's Dreamy Socks
I finished a pair of "man socks" last week and you all know what an accomplishment that is. They were worth it, though, because Dale is absolutely in love with these socks.

He says they fit better than any socks I've knit for him before. I attribute it to two things: 1) my knitting skillz and 2) the yarn.

Dream in Color Smooshy Sock. This is good stuff, people. Really good stuff.

I was worried that I wouldn't get both socks out of a full skein so I did a contrasting toe with some Louet Gems I had lying around. But honestly, I didn't need to do that. Got that? You can get a pair of man socks out of one skein of this yarn.

I call them Dale's Dreamy Socks. A play on the yarn name and a tribute to how Dale looks at me whenever I knit something for him.
Man Socks. They might just enhance your relationship.

Nice socks! I am very impressed, I have never actually cast on for a giant pair of man socks. But those look dreamy indeed! Maybe someday...

Nice socks! Will that skein do a size 12 pair of ginormous hubby socks?
Posted by: Julie at February 21, 2008 7:08 AM
I hear nothing but good about this yarn! Now if only I could start a pair! They're really nice!
Posted by: Carol at February 21, 2008 7:24 AM
I love those contrast-y toes even though they weren't necessary!
Sweet name!
Posted by: Kirsten at February 21, 2008 7:24 AM
They look great!
Posted by: Kathy at February 21, 2008 7:28 AM
The socks are handsome. I'll have to add some of that yarn to my future purchaes list!
Posted by: Karen at February 21, 2008 7:40 AM
Nice looking man socks!
Posted by: Julie at February 21, 2008 8:07 AM
Nice! I bet they feel divine.
Posted by: Chris at February 21, 2008 8:11 AM
Well done!
Posted by: Kim at February 21, 2008 8:20 AM
Those are GREAT. You know me -- I actually prefer plain socks and mannish colors in my socks. I'm weird, I know.
Posted by: Norma at February 21, 2008 8:23 AM
everything is better in Dream in Color!
Posted by: Mama-E at February 21, 2008 8:25 AM
They look perfect! Love that color.
Posted by: PumpkinMama at February 21, 2008 8:26 AM
Very, very nice!!

Those are the nicest (and most family-friendly) marital aids I've ever seen.
Posted by: Lucia at February 21, 2008 8:30 AM
You have inspired me - I WILL finish the socks I started for my hubby about a year and a half ago...
Posted by: Amy O' at February 21, 2008 8:35 AM
I like the contrasting toe. Maybe that's why I've had trouble with knitting socks - I'm using the wrong yarn! :)
Posted by: Beth at February 21, 2008 8:53 AM
Want to hear something sad? Really sad? My DH Jeff *doesn't want socks*! Seriously! What am I supposed to do?
I think he has it in his mind that all handknit socks are brightly colored lacey cabley creations. Perhaps if I show him those gorgeous ones you just made, he'll change his mind. "See, hon? Carole's husband wears socks!" :-D
They are gorgeous, though. Love the contrasting toe!
Posted by: Kate at February 21, 2008 9:06 AM
They look great! The contrasting toe is a nice touch, though it's nice to know it wasn't needed. What size needle did you use?
Posted by: Wool Winder at February 21, 2008 9:11 AM
Those are good-looking socks! My hubby loves his handknit ones, too!
Posted by: Marcia Cooke at February 21, 2008 9:24 AM
You're going to thank me for showing remarkable restraint and not calling the name I was thinking of when you said they might enhance your relationship. But it's very difficult .....
Posted by: Deb at February 21, 2008 9:30 AM
Excellent man sock! Unobtrusive enough for a man, interesting enough for a knitter - and comfortable to boot!
Posted by: Ina at February 21, 2008 9:30 AM
That last line is exactly what my husband keeps telling me - Seriously! And can you believe I have Never Knit Him Anything?!
Posted by: Laura at February 21, 2008 9:38 AM
Nice work -- I wish Thom would wear his man socks more often, but he saves them for cold days.
Posted by: Danielle at February 21, 2008 9:39 AM
Very nice and in a great Manly color. Is that a plain vanilla sock pattern?
Posted by: Manise at February 21, 2008 9:48 AM
Ooo, that's wonderful to know the put up is enough for man socks! They look wonderfully comfortable. Just don't let Dale talke to Drew right now ;-)
Posted by: Kristi aka Fiber Fool at February 21, 2008 9:50 AM
Very nice. My DH keeps picking wild yarn out of my stash for his size 13 socks.
Posted by: Paula at February 21, 2008 9:51 AM
Never mind! Found it on Ravelry!
Posted by: Manise at February 21, 2008 9:51 AM
I can see the fit very, very well! I have some Smooshy in my stash. Might be time to give it a go...socks for ME!
Posted by: margene at February 21, 2008 10:01 AM
Cute - I like the contrast tow, evn if it wasn't necessary.
And I have learned that man socks more than pay for the work you put into them in love and affection. Took my husband 6 months to have the guts to try on the socks I made for him out of Koigu (he was worried he'd ruin them!). Now he can't stop begging for more!!
Posted by: michaele at February 21, 2008 10:04 AM
oh man, I must need my caffeine! Sorry about those typos...
Posted by: michaele at February 21, 2008 10:05 AM
Very nice! I've never tried that yarn but it sure looks lovely.
Posted by: Leslie at February 21, 2008 10:21 AM
They look wonderful, and I like the toes! But now I'm going to feel guilty all day. Larry loves his socks, and I know I need to make more for him.
Posted by: Cheryl S. at February 21, 2008 10:44 AM
LOL - I knit some recently for my husband and when I bullied him into a photoshoot, he refused to take them off. I should probably wash them - it's been a month...
Posted by: Carrie at February 21, 2008 10:51 AM
wow, the little yarn shop in my town (that i never go to because all she carries is lots and lots of baby yarn) actually carries this yarn! i'll definitely have to go. i always feel bad about not going because she's a really nice lady.
Posted by: maryse at February 21, 2008 11:49 AM
Very nice! My husband felted the last (and it may very well be THE last) pair of socks I knit him. He's in sock time out right now.
Posted by: Bridget at February 21, 2008 12:06 PM
Wonderful man socks, Carole! Dale is a lucky man. It's good to know that I can get a pair of man socks out of a skein of Smooshy.
Right now, I'd happily settle for a photo of my man in his socks. Or just the socks. Can you tell I'm running out of ideas for the blog? *L*

Nice Socks! I am making socks for my hubby right now (first time) and had a freak out moment/busted out the kitchen scale when I didn't think I could get a sock out of a ball each of Regia. But I learned "Yes you can, too." There wasn't much to spare but it does work out.
Happy Feet, Dale!

Great socks! Man socks can enhance your relationship... my husband went on a business trip and left me an "I love you note"... at the bottom it said "PS, you make radical socks!". lol!
Posted by: Jess at February 21, 2008 12:50 PM
Hahaha, that's pretty good. Perhaps it could be said that one way to a man's heart is through his feet. ; )
Posted by: Vicki at February 21, 2008 1:14 PM
They look awesome! :o)
Posted by: JessaLu at February 21, 2008 1:23 PM
Very nice! I have a skein of that somewhere...Isn't it nice to have a man that can appreciate the hand knits? Hee.
Posted by: Julia at February 21, 2008 1:42 PM
Yep. Those are perfect man-socks, exactly as they are. Lucky Dale! :-)
Posted by: Beth S. at February 21, 2008 1:55 PM
Oh, very nice! Bill wants me to make him some socks, but I've been holding off. He's REALLY hard on socks, and I don't know if I could cope...LOL.
Posted by: Chris H at February 21, 2008 2:48 PM
My new found love of Dream in Color had me knowing what yarn that was before even scrolling down. I love that stuff!! So smooshy, and the yardage is amazing - being one that has man sized feet herself :)
Loving Dale's Happy Feet :)

Great socks! Love that DIC Black Parade.
I'll be forever grateful that I married a man with size 7 feet. Knitting socks for him is no more arduous than knitting socks for myself.
Posted by: Micki at February 21, 2008 6:22 PM
Lovely socks! My husband still looks at me like I'm a marvel for knitting him socks...he loves, loves, loves them and is in awe and wonder that I can do this...(how great is that!) And he prefers the contrasting toe. Again - lovely socks!

I love a man who appreciates talent!
Posted by: Alarming Female at February 21, 2008 11:58 PM
Ok toots, yes the socks are dreamy but the time has come for you to try TOE UPS!!!!! Who needs the stress of knowing if you'll have enough yarn?
I'll mentor you and I'll be very gentle...you've got the skillz, let's do it, baby!!!! :)
Posted by: Debi at February 22, 2008 2:50 AM
Love the socks Carole! I am in fact knitting on a pair of the same colour (for my D post, even though I have yet to post on C!) and the experience is marvelous - love the yarn, looove the colour! I can completely understand why Dale loves them so much (okay I will stop gushing now).
Posted by: Cynthia at February 22, 2008 11:39 AM
Beautiful socks! I do appreciate the knowledge that a pair of man socks can come from one skein. Takes away some of the fear and loathing at the end of the knit....
Posted by: Laurie at February 22, 2008 4:59 PM
I agree with Debi - toe-ups all the way! I wound my Dream in Color into 2 balls to be sure I'd have enough. It's a brilliant trick, I tell you!
Nice socks!
Posted by: theLady at February 22, 2008 10:32 PM
I was thinking that I needed to knit my M a new pair of socks. He wants black socks, so I'm knitting grey socks as a compromise. Hee!
Posted by: Wanda at February 23, 2008 1:12 AM
dreamy indeed !
Posted by: Teyani at February 23, 2008 11:58 AM
An entire pair of mans socks with one skein? Impressive.
They look dreamy, so you've named them perfectly. Lucky guy!
