Tour de Fleece

The Tour de Fleece started Saturday and like any good athlete, I did some training in preparation. Spinning training sure is more fun than other types of training. Just saying.

Finally, remember the vacation spinning I did? Well, I finished spinning the roving from Spinner's Hill and plyed it up and got about 600+ yards. That's enough for a Shetland Triangle, which is going to be my Spun Stitches knitting.

I started off Saturday morning with empty bobbins and a plan to spin every day until July 29th. I'm hoping to make a significant dent in my fiber stash. Anyone want to play a game and guess how many ounces I will spin by the time the Tour de Fleece is over? There will be a fibery prize for the one who comes closest without going over.

Here is some information to aid you in your guessing:
~I'm not a particularly fast spinner. It usually takes me 2-3 sessions to spin up 4 oz.
~Anything I spin will count towards the total. In other words, it doesn't have to be plyed and finished yarn.
~I'm working the next two weeks and my weekends will be moderately busy

That's about all I can think of to give you for hints. To enter the contest just leave a comment on this post anytime until July 29th. Hopefully you'll have fun playing while I have fun spinning.

That's lovely yarn there. I will take a wild guess on how much you will spin and say 39 ounces.

wow. that tulip looks beautiful spun up. anyway, the tour de fleece looks like a great spin-along. i wonder if it's too late to join.

anyway i'm going to guess 36oz

Posted by: maryse at July 9, 2007 7:51 AM

My guess is 58 oz. I can't wait to see it all.

Posted by: Katie K at July 9, 2007 7:58 AM

Oooo, it's all so pretty! That green yarn just sings! I spun all weekend and worked on Amy's roving, too. I LOVE the Tulip BFL...the Nightshade was very scratchy but I love the colors. July is a good month to sit back and spin the heat away. I'm guessing...33 oz. ;-)

Posted by: margene at July 9, 2007 8:07 AM

Wow - Tulips looks great - can you tell us how you prepped and finished the fiber? I'm always so interested in how different each spinner's yarn turns out.

Posted by: elisa at July 9, 2007 8:08 AM

Due to your very competitive nature I'll have to say 40 oz! Love your skeins!

Posted by: Manise at July 9, 2007 8:16 AM

Wow, these are some high guesses! I'm going with 13oz.

Posted by: Cheryl at July 9, 2007 8:26 AM

That is some lovely yarn! I have plenty of confidence in you, so I'll say 48oz. I wouldn't be surprised if you went way over either.

Posted by: Carol at July 9, 2007 8:26 AM

Your yarns look great! I'm going to guess 38 oz. Are you going to spin on the rest days? (Yes. I'm a tour junkie.)

Posted by: Susan at July 9, 2007 8:29 AM

Love your yarns! What are you going to make?
Okay...my guess is 45 oz's! I'm a slow starter for the Tour de Fleece...I'm so focused on getting this baby blanket finished before this Saturday!

Posted by: Robin in VA at July 9, 2007 8:31 AM

Your spinning has sure come a long way to perfection!
I'm not officially on the Tour de, but I'm playing/plying along on my own. (2007 is the year of spinning for me.)

Posted by: Dave Daniels at July 9, 2007 9:16 AM

Those yarns look great. I especially like the green one. I'll go with 28oz but i'm sure that you'll do more than that.

Posted by: Hillary at July 9, 2007 9:17 AM

I'm going to guess 24 ounces. Your recent spinning looks great!

Posted by: Karen at July 9, 2007 9:18 AM

good stuff carole! i'm guessing you'll spin 32oz. best of luck on the tour de fleece!

Posted by: amanda at July 9, 2007 9:20 AM

I really love the purply one. It reminds me a lot of the Koigu socks I finished so recently. My guess is 16 ounces.

Posted by: Julie at July 9, 2007 9:24 AM

Love the green - it's going to knit up beautifully!

My guess is 23.5 ounces :-)

Happy Spinning!

Posted by: Karen at July 9, 2007 9:28 AM

I'm going to guess 28 ounces. I'm in the Tour de Fleece too. I got to spin both days on the weekend, but the true test starts today. :-) Good luck to you!

Posted by: Jennifer at July 9, 2007 9:36 AM

Pretty stuff! I'll guess 42 oz.

Posted by: Chris at July 9, 2007 9:39 AM

I'm going to guess 27 ounces. Have fun!

Posted by: Katy at July 9, 2007 10:07 AM

I don't think you spin all that slowly. I sat next to you at SPA. I'd say 22 oz, or about an ounce a day on average.

Posted by: Laurie at July 9, 2007 10:13 AM

Shetland Triangle, yay! That one's been haunting my dreams lately too.

Love your Tulips, and I guess that you will surprise us all and spin 30 oz. :-)

Posted by: Beth S. at July 9, 2007 10:51 AM

No guesses on the contest, but I love that green yarn that you spun up.

Posted by: Wanda at July 9, 2007 11:16 AM

Okay, Here I go guessing on something that I have no idea about.:) I'm going to say 31 oz. Happy Spinning!

Posted by: i.d.d.a. at July 9, 2007 11:37 AM

So beautiful - you're inspiring me to get my wheel back out! I especially love the green. I think it'll look so great in a shawl.

Posted by: Tina at July 9, 2007 11:52 AM

*sigh* I am soooooo slow, even without an injury. 2-3 sessions to spin up 4 ounces??? If only I spun that fast. I'm more like 2-3 weeks to spin up 4 ounces. For an accurate guess are you going to be trying any new techniques or new fibers?? J/K I'll guess 27 oz

Posted by: Kristi aka Fiber Fool at July 9, 2007 12:03 PM

Gorgeous spinning!

Posted by: Cookie at July 9, 2007 12:23 PM

I'm going to guess 24 oz.

That Tulips is to die for! Gorgeous.

Posted by: Julie at July 9, 2007 12:34 PM

I'll guess 30 ounces and man, it's all so beautiful, Carole!I really love the Tulips!

Posted by: Deb at July 9, 2007 1:09 PM

23 oz. I'm thinking. I love the green yarn too. Oh, it looks squishy, I have a soft spot for squishy yarn.

Posted by: Kelli at July 9, 2007 1:26 PM

Lovely!

While I think you capable of much more, I am going to say 29 oz!

Posted by: Leah at July 9, 2007 2:00 PM

I was thinking like Laurie that you would spine about an ounce/day on average, but instead of copying her completely I'll say 24.2 oz. -- that's 10% more. Go, you!

Posted by: kmkat at July 9, 2007 2:39 PM

Your handspun yarn always looks so wonderful! I'm getting ready to start a Shetland Triangle shawl, too. I wonder if we'll be knitting the same pattern?

I'm going to guess 26 oz. for your spinning. Have fun! :)

Posted by: Beth at July 9, 2007 3:41 PM

Dang, girl - you GO! That is some beautiful handspun. And then think of all the fun you'll have planning projects for it once you are done spinning it all!

Posted by: Anne at July 9, 2007 6:29 PM

It's all so beautiful! I'm going to guess 33 oz. Have a fun time.

Posted by: brenda at July 9, 2007 6:40 PM

Ok I am going to go with 22.5 oz. You spin beautifully and love the colors. Good luck.

Posted by: Debbi at July 9, 2007 7:44 PM

I am going to guess 20 ounces. Good luck

Posted by: Cheryl at July 9, 2007 7:51 PM

I am going with 25.5 ounces. Good luck!

Posted by: Mindy at July 9, 2007 7:56 PM

Oooh, I love the greenish colored yarn you spun up the best (but they are all quite lovely!). Here's my guess, say it with a good old brooklyn accent (33 and a thoid=33.3 ounces)! Our garden was bursting with those garlic scapes. What do you do with them? We used a bit in place of scallions in a salad, but couldn't use them all. And we are struggling to keep up with eating lettuce! Our small garden is overabundant for a while, then lacking for a while, then again overabundant.

Posted by: lisa at July 9, 2007 8:11 PM

I have no guess, but ooohhh....I do love your spinners hill and it will make a beautiful shetland shawl!

Posted by: Kim at July 9, 2007 8:29 PM

Your Nightshade and Tulips look a lot like mine. Aren't Amy's colors great? I love your Spinner's Hill - it looks like fresh limes. Yum! I'm going to guess 72 oz. - I think you're on a roll! :-)

Posted by: DebbieB at July 9, 2007 11:13 PM

I am not at all a spinner, but I will think optimistically for you.....77 ounces!!

Have fun... it all looks great so far!

Posted by: Lee Cockrum at July 9, 2007 11:17 PM

Hmm, I have high hopes for you, I think you'll out do yourself and produce 45oz. Please do that so I can win!!!!;o)

Posted by: olga at July 10, 2007 8:05 AM

Lovely spinning! I love how the Nightshade turned out. The green yarn will make a lovely shawl. I can't wait to see that!

There are some pretty high guesses, but I'm going to say 24 ounces, partly because that is my goal, too.

Posted by: Rachel at July 10, 2007 11:41 AM

My guess is 14.4 oz!

Posted by: Jen C. at July 10, 2007 1:44 PM

I am guessing 32 oz.

Posted by: Kenyetta at July 10, 2007 2:23 PM

I'm going to guess 18 oz. Have fun!

Posted by: Nicole at July 10, 2007 3:55 PM

Since I turned 38 today, I'm going to guess 38. I know someone already guessed that, so if you need to, you can bump me down to 37. It was a good year, but I think 38 is going to be the best one yet!

Good luck! I can't wait to see everything you produce in the next 19 days!

Posted by: ~Kristie at July 10, 2007 5:22 PM

20 ounces

Posted by: 5elementknitr at July 10, 2007 5:28 PM

Has already been said, but I'm guessing 28 ounces... Eight being my favorite number, I tend to go with something eight whenever possible. If dupes don't work, though, feel free to bump me down to an even 25. Enjoy your spinning time, however much you have -- and your yarn is lovely!

Posted by: SheepsPyjamas at July 10, 2007 7:09 PM

Forty-seven!

Posted by: Eve at July 10, 2007 8:50 PM

If you are as busy as I am yet try to fit in a lot of spinning time, though say you are not a fast spinner? I a guessing 14.3 oz.

Seems like you're probably pretty committed to working on your spinning. This is the Tour de Fleece after all!

I normally do things in ,multiples of 13...but 39 was taken...

My guess is 43oz. I have faith in you!!

And by the way, I love the green yarn in this post!

Posted by: Sarah at July 11, 2007 11:00 AM

I'm not a spinner, so this is a total shot in the dark! 22 ounces.

Posted by: Megan at July 11, 2007 11:26 AM

I'm going with 17 oz.

Posted by: stariel at July 11, 2007 7:38 PM

Gorgeous stuff!

I'll guess 18.6 ounces. :)

37 oz?

Posted by: catsmum at July 14, 2007 6:29 AM

Your spinning is fabulous. I hope when I get around to spinning my Spunky Eclectic they look as good as yours!! My guess is 52 oz.

Posted by: Gina D. at July 15, 2007 4:55 PM

I'm going with 45 oz :)
