Gone Fishin'
I neglected to mention that I'm on vacation this week. See, as a public servant, my vacation time goes July 1 to June 30, and I can only carry over one week, so I had a few extra days to use up this June. Librarians don't make a lot of money but there are some decent perks - like 5 weeks vacation per year. Anyway, this vacation is a little different than the last one because Dale is also off and Hannah is done with school as of Tuesday. We've tried to do something fun every day and Tuesday's fun was fishing.
I've loved fishing since the first time Dale took me out in a canoe and handed me a fishing rod. I didn't know what I was doing back then but I've learned a lot in the last 10 years. Not that all my time and effort did me any good this time.

And one other spot where I neglected to take a photo. Sadly, I got nothing. My companion was more successful than I, however.
A lovely pickerel - which was promptly put back in the pond and sent on his merry fishy way. Catch and release, that's how we do it.
Despite my lack of success with the fish, well, you know what they say, right? A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.

That sounds like fun! My uncle used to let e fish with him when I was a kid. I really enjoyed it.

I haven't been fishing in years, but it's a good day's play. I'm also reminded of one of my all-time favorite t-shirt slogans (*not* one of my husband's), "Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day."

Oh, I WISH I had five weeks of vacation! I've only got two. I am seriously considering, next year, asking for an extra week of vacation time in lieu of a raise. It would only a year before I'm eligible for the extra week anyway, and I'd just like to match my husband a bit more equally (he's got four weeks)!

I love to go fishing with my husband too!! The best part of fishing is the part where I sit, knit, and drink a beer or two while he catches the fish. The peace, the quiet, the breath taking views, and the delicious fish for dinner!! Actually,I do fish and then take knitting breaks. And I love every second of it!! Enjoy your vacation.

I took the kids to a local reservoir where people fish. We spent some time watching two men sitting and fishing off a dock. It looked very peaceful.

I love fishing too! I've never been freshwater fishing or eaten a freshwater fish either.

For me, a quiet lake and a canoe are enough. I don't even do the catch and release. I can see me sitting in a canoe in the middle of a lake knittin socks, though.

Those look like really nice places to be. And I miss going out in a canoe, too. The suburbs have some wonderful rivers and lakes. I like your catch and release philosophy. Have a fun rest of vacation!

The coloring and pattern of that fish are very interesting. I used to fish some when I was a kid and I still enjoy telling the stories from those times.

That's beautiful! Is that lake in MA? It looks exactly like where we go canoeing and fishing in the North Woods of Wisconsin. Wild rice peeking up and all. It's one of my favorite things to do, too. Have a great rest of your vacation!

I haven't been fishing since I was maybe 10 or so, but it sure was fun! I remember sitting on the end of a dock in Plymouth, and, for lack of anything else, using Cheese Nips and hotdogs for bait! After my Papa took the third fish (in less than two minutes!) off the hook and tossed it back, he said that if I caught any more I was going to have to release them myself. After that I just sat and enjoyed the view...

Oh how FUN! I love fishing but part of the greatness is eating what you've caught!! I learned to bait my hook, take the fish off, clean and cook them when I was little. Mmmm MM! Gotta know how to do that when you live in Michigan and the most popular passtime seems to be fishing. :)
Carole I can't believe I'm a week behind on your blog! Your Anniversary post is just beautiful and so are the pictures of you and Dale. Oh how sweet to be so happy, huh? And your daughter was only 4. I hope she is just as happy about the last ten years with you and Dale. :)

Looks like a lot of fun, plus all that quality family time. I've never really fished (well, expect as a little kid) and I've thought about trying to talk someone into teaching me to fly fish, but it looks so technical that it's intimidating.
