New Hampshire Sheep & Wolf

The title of today's post is brought to you by Pastor Olson at my church. You see, on Friday when I told him that I was heading to a Sheep & Wool festival, he thought I said it was a sheep and wolf festival. I explained what I really said, told him a festival with wolves wouldn't be much fun for the sheep, and we had a good laugh. I'm happy to report that there were no wolves at the New Hampshire Sheep & Wool festival - only good friends. And perhaps some fiber and yarn.

The weather was absolutely perfect - blue skies and warm sunshine with just enough of a breeze to bring the temps down to a comfortable level. This weather was all the sweeter when compared with last year's horrific rain and flooding. I even took a picture in the same spot just so you could see the difference in the water level.

blogger_meetup.jpg

The blogger meet up was great fun. It wasn't as huge (or overwhelming) as Rhinebeck and I got to catch up with quite a few friends while meeting some new ones, too. We had lunch in the picnic grove and spent even more time visiting and laughing. I did remember to pull out the camera for a couple of photos.

manise_dale.jpg
Manise is whacking Dale. I think he criticized her spindling technique or something. Whatever the case, he had it coming. Heh.

maryse_laurie.jpg

Laurie
is probably contemplating the best way to enable my non-wool purchases while Maryse makes what I call her "French" face. You know the one, "zee I am better zan you becawse I am French" look. Love you, guys.

And that's it for photos of the festival, I'm afraid. You'll just have to trust me that we ate lobster rolls and shopped and laughed and had a generally wonderful time.

Oh, wait. I can provide photographic proof of the shopping.

Two Grafton Fiber batts, one Foxfire ribbon batt, some merino from a place I don't remember but I couldn't resist the color, yarn and a free pattern to make a couple of baby hats, Judy's sock yarn and a wristaff, silk hankies and a silk brick from Carolina Homespun, and a t-shirt that says "Spin Free or Dye."

You will notice: no fleece. Of course, this could be because I have 3 processed fleeces at home that I haven't even touched yet. Or it could be because I brought two unprocessed fleeces with me to leave with the good people of Friend's Folly for processing. Whatever the case, I wasn't even tempted.

And that's my travelogue of New Hampshire Sheep & Wolf. It was a wonderful day!

Dale wanted to know if I always spindle with a paper bag clamped between my legs. I had trapped it there so it wouldn't blow away.....sheesh. It was a perfectly wonderful day with wonderful friends. I almost came home with a pink "baby" too. Not too sure why I left it.

Great stuff! I wanted to get one of those shirts, but alas, they don't make them big enough for me. Some motivation to lose more weight (that and the fact that I refuse to spin the yarn and knit a sweater big enough for me at this size - it's a goal for next year though...)

Weather really was perfect - I'm praying for another great day this Saturday for the RI Sheep and Wool!

Posted by: Donna at May 15, 2007 7:12 AM

You bought great stuff! The weather was perfect too.

Posted by: Karen at May 15, 2007 7:36 AM

Laurie looks so relaxed! She must have had no pressing items to purchase. I'm more envious that you spent time with everyone than your fiber buys...but they are fabu!!

Posted by: margene at May 15, 2007 7:47 AM

I have a "Spin free or Dye" bumper sticker on my car. Right next to my "Live Free or Die" license plate! I picked up all my fleeces from Friends Folly at NH and I'm SO pleased with the job they did. Plus they're a pleasure to deal with.

Posted by: Cheryl at May 15, 2007 8:00 AM

Great haul! I think the NH festival looks nice and manageable (as opposed to large and overwhelming). Silk come in a brick?

Posted by: Emily at May 15, 2007 8:04 AM

Looks like fun! Nice and calm and fibery.

Posted by: susan at May 15, 2007 8:18 AM

My kid calls Maryland "Sheep and Wolf!" Nice day!

lovely day!

Posted by: vanessa at May 15, 2007 8:28 AM

Sigh, it really was a lovely day filled with lovely friends and lovely finds.

I also picked up one of those Foxfire batts. Maryse calls it my "Princess Sparkle Fiber". Tee-hee.

Sheep and Wolf, that is too funny! Some very nice looking goodies you have there!

Posted by: Kim at May 15, 2007 8:45 AM

It really was a wonderful day.

Posted by: Ruth at May 15, 2007 8:53 AM

Looks like a Top Ten kind of day!

Posted by: Vicki at May 15, 2007 8:55 AM

Grafton fiber batts are so luxurious! Nice purchases!

Posted by: Jennifer at May 15, 2007 8:57 AM

We are planning to go to the Rhinebeck festival in Oct. Is it more crowded than N.H? Once again your blog is the best. Have a great day. sandy

Posted by: sandy at May 15, 2007 8:58 AM

I am still shaking my head at the similarity in purchases. And, those pastel skein/pattern are from Ewe-Will Farm -- yup, bought the pattern and cormo from them at Connecticut.

Posted by: Kathy at May 15, 2007 9:01 AM

I definitely have to plan to go next year....maybe I'll skip Maryland altogether. It's just that three Sheep and "Wolves" in a row is a bit too much for the husband and the checkbook! (I get to go to one that none of you guys can, though: when we are out west next month, although Estes Park didn't work out, we are driving up to Montana for the Big Sky Fiber Fest something-or-other and Anne of Wooly Wonka will be there!)

Posted by: Marcia Cooke at May 15, 2007 9:03 AM

Oh, looks like a lovely time! Lobster rolls - wah! This being back in the Midwest thing really puts a crimp in my lobster consumption. I will have to get out East in the future for some Sheep & Wolf festivals.

Posted by: Kathleen Fivel at May 15, 2007 9:08 AM

Oooo, such gorgeous colors!!! Sounds like a fantastic time!

Posted by: Kristi aka Fiber Fool at May 15, 2007 9:13 AM

Oh, look at that sky! Gorgeous. Hee hee - excellent t-shirt.

Posted by: Chris at May 15, 2007 9:24 AM

Sounds like you had a delightful time! I am envious of the fun in the sun with fiber friends part, but there will be a few festivals out this way soon... love the t-shirt.

Posted by: Birdsong at May 15, 2007 9:46 AM

Nice stuff! I fondled some Grafton Fiber batts early in the morning. It was all downhill after that ...

Posted by: Danielle at May 15, 2007 9:53 AM

Great fiber and great friends! Everything looks great, especially that silk brick. Can't wait to see what you do with it!

Posted by: elizabeth at May 15, 2007 10:11 AM

It was great, wasn't it? Only too short.

Posted by: Lucia at May 15, 2007 10:45 AM

That purple batt looks good enough to eat! Ok, almost. It sounds like it was a wonderful day. I'm glad you had fun.:)

Posted by: Karen at May 15, 2007 10:51 AM

Great haul!

Posted by: Alison at May 15, 2007 10:52 AM

Oh, what fun! I'm jealous of your east coast fiber opportunities!

Posted by: Annie at May 15, 2007 10:52 AM

Looks like it was fun! And your goodies are lovely as always!

Posted by: amanda at May 15, 2007 10:54 AM

Ooooh, I was lovin' the colorways over at Grafton Fibers. Once I master my lovely new drop spindle (do I hear angels singing?) I gotta get me some of that! It was a beautiful day made even better by your company. See you again soon!

Posted by: Heather R. at May 15, 2007 11:47 AM

I was luvin' the colors at Grafton Fibers. Once I get the hang of my new toy, I'll have to get some of that! It was so good to see you there!

Posted by: Heather R. at May 15, 2007 11:49 AM

Did we buy the same two skeins from Judy? I can't quite tell if your green is the same as mine, but I think it may be. :-)

Posted by: Beth S. at May 15, 2007 11:58 AM

Looks like you had a great day and came home with some great stuff! The bag of pastel yarn looks like a bag of Easter eggs :)

Posted by: Julie at May 15, 2007 12:11 PM

Sounds like Dale is lucky he didn't get bonked on the head by her spindle. *L*

I'm so glad you had a lovely day. Thanks for sharing with us, Carole!

Posted by: Cookie at May 15, 2007 12:19 PM

Sheep and Wolf! I love that, especially since I get a lot of funny looks when I teel people I'm going to MD Sheep and Wool. Your purchases look wonderful. I just love the Grafton batts. Their colors are so wonderful.

Posted by: hillary at May 15, 2007 12:27 PM

I'm still giggling over the sheep and wolf festival - Oh, the carnage! Great purchases. I can't we to see them as they progress on to whatever it is they will becom...

Posted by: Deb at May 15, 2007 12:51 PM

Nice haul! I like how you've got all different colors represented. And good for you for not buying more fleece. It's early in the festival season, you've got to pace yourself.

The weather was perfect, the crowd was relaxed and manageable, it was a delightful day. I love being greeted by that little brook as you enter the fairgrounds. ~sigh~

Posted by: Debbie at May 15, 2007 12:59 PM

my kids always called it sheep and wolf. Nice haul baby!

Posted by: Kathleen at May 15, 2007 1:11 PM

Ooooooh. Pretty stuff. Looks like fun time, even though there were no wolves. Hee.

Ahh.. looks like so much fun. You had perfect weather! YEAH! I love all your purchases. You definitely got some gorgeous fiber!

Posted by: ~Kristie at May 15, 2007 2:18 PM

LOL at the title. I had the same thing happen to me when I told someone about Rhinebeck. Definitely had a good laugh over that one. :)

Nice purchases too!

Posted by: Jessica at May 15, 2007 2:56 PM

It looks like you had a wonderful time. I think that kind of festival would be much more fun than Maryland or Rhinebeck. Not as many vendors, but at least you can actually get into the booth of those that are there!

I am in love with that purple batt. I haven't spun any Grafton Fibers batts, but after seeing yours, I must get some now.

Posted by: Rachel at May 15, 2007 3:08 PM

Oooh, that purple fiber looks marvelous. Now I'm going to have to go home and Dye Something Deep Purple. Glad you had such a great time!

Posted by: BigAlice at May 15, 2007 3:09 PM

Sounds like you had a great time!!

Posted by: Susan at May 15, 2007 4:15 PM

Sheep and Wolf is a better name.

I'm still giggling about the wolf. Those Grafton batts look good enough to eat. Glad you had fun with friends.

Posted by: DebbieB at May 15, 2007 4:54 PM

Ahhhhgggg.... the fiber is GORGEOUS!! Ohh I'm gonna be in so much trouble at Estes. hehe Can't wait. :)

Looks like a wonderful time - nice loot too!

Posted by: PumpkinMama at May 15, 2007 6:49 PM

my, my, you were busy! love the colors.

Posted by: maggie at May 15, 2007 9:30 PM

Your purchases are so pretty! I can't wait to see your spinning - especially the multi-colored yarn. It's going to look so neat.

Posted by: Beth at May 15, 2007 11:05 PM

It was a pleasure to meet you again and to meet Dale. Thanks for enabling me too. I bought some of Judy's yarn as well while there. The Sheep and Wolf festival was so much fun.

Posted by: Wanda at May 17, 2007 9:42 AM

that's a beautiful haul; esp that deep purple.

Posted by: anne at May 20, 2007 11:54 PM

I"m not sure I would call my efforts a success.
