The Interview

I read an interview over at Knitiot Savant yesterday and decided that looked like fun so I asked Susan to send me 5 questions to answer for ya'll. Really, it had nothing to do with the fact that I have nothing else to talk about today.

1. Has spinning enriched your knitting experience? If so, how?
Now that I am spinning yarn and actually knitting with it, I can say that spinning has definitely enriched my knitting experience. There's something truly satisfying about knitting with your own handspun yarn. It may not be as perfect as commercially spun yarn but it feels like a great accomplishment. I'm prouder of the things I've knit with my handspun than any other things I've knit.

2. What's your favorite quilt block pattern?
Oooh, a quilting question! My favorite quilt block pattern is Log Cabin. It's so versatile and looks great whether pieced with scraps or newly purchased fabrics. There are loads of different layouts and I just never get tired of making Log Cabin quilts.

3. What's a 'comfort food' for you?
My favorite comfort food is mashed potatoes and gravy. I'm also big on homemade mac 'n cheese. Bring on the carbs.

4. Why did you become a librarian?
I became a librarian because I like research. There's nothing so satisfying as answering a tough reference question. Of course, most of what I do on a daily basis has less to do with libraries and more to do with management, but that's okay because I like management, too. I wrote a post about my childhood librarian and the way she inspired me here.

5. What's your favorite book and why?
Now this is tough because it changes depending on my mood, my age, my experience and my surroundings. I will say that the book I've read more times than any other is Pride and Prejudice. Honestly, though, I think my favorite book ever is The Time Traveler's Wife. Heartbreaking but satisfying.

Thanks for the great questions, Susan, I had fun answering them. And I hope you all had fun reading my answers. If you want me to interview you, just let me know and I'll send you five questions.

And, finally, because a blog post without a photo is like a day without coffee - dull and lifeless - I give you a photo of Hannah taken while we were shopping a week or so ago. She just lurved this shirt.

No. I did not buy it for her.

Susan is brilliant isn't she? But her interview neglected to answer the burning question of who kidnapped Ken!

How criminal that you didn't buy her the shirt, that's too darn funny. ;)

Posted by: Julie at March 27, 2007 7:03 AM

Oh, buy her the shirt, mom! Think how much fun she'll have wearing it. :D

Posted by: Marcy at March 27, 2007 7:05 AM

Had fun reading your answers! That shirt is hilarious!

Posted by: Kelly at March 27, 2007 7:09 AM

Great t-shirt! I agree with you totally on the carbs as comfort food. And I got into librarianship for the same reason, but also do management stuff most of the time. It pays better but sure isn't as satisfying.

Posted by: Sonya at March 27, 2007 7:09 AM

You're hired! The shirt is hilarious!

Posted by: Carol at March 27, 2007 7:27 AM

Ohh... nice shirt!! And, I think that shirt needs to end up in someone's Easter basket :)

Homemade beef stew (tastes better out of my mom's crockpot than mine... maybe it's just being "home") or pot roast is my comfort food.

Wanna interview me?? ( I could use some blog fodder... it's quite the week at work!)

Posted by: Kate at March 27, 2007 7:27 AM

I'll know we're making an impact on society when a shirt says "No one cares about your KNITTING blog".
Of course, it'd be wrong.

Posted by: gale (she shoots sheep shots) at March 27, 2007 7:29 AM

Is she adorable or what! And that tee -- priceless -- did she roll her eyes after you snapped the picture?

Posted by: Kathy at March 27, 2007 7:39 AM

I enjoyed your interview. One of my favorite parts of a blog are the little bits of real life that creep in.

Posted by: Karen at March 27, 2007 7:44 AM

I enjoyed your answers. I love coming to your blog each day. sandy

Posted by: sandy at March 27, 2007 7:49 AM

The little snip...will she go back with her allowance money?
Great questions...nice to read answers.

Posted by: margene at March 27, 2007 7:51 AM

Great interview...and I LOVE that shirt! There needs to be one that says~"My Mom's Blog Is Better Than Yours"!!!

Posted by: Robin in VA at March 27, 2007 7:51 AM

Love the expression on her face!

Posted by: PumpkinMama at March 27, 2007 7:55 AM

*I* want that shirt!!! Hahahaha. That is so excellent. Hannah is some kind of gorgeous, too.

Posted by: Norma at March 27, 2007 8:14 AM

My daughter would love that shirt too. Great interview. It's funny how we all love the reference but we wind up doing the admin stuff.

Posted by: hillary at March 27, 2007 8:16 AM

Interesting that Time Travelers Wife is your favorite of all time.. its the librarian in you ;) I loved it as well, I mean LOVED it, but Maya Angelou rates up there as my favorite of all time.
And I'm with everyone else, Hannah needs that tshirt Mom!

Posted by: Carla at March 27, 2007 8:34 AM

OMG - That shirt is too funny! I agree that she NEEDS it :)

I enjoyed reading your answers.

Posted by: Julie at March 27, 2007 8:51 AM

What a horrible, horrible shirt.

Mashed potatoes. Mac n' cheese. Mmmmmmmmmmmm...

Posted by: Betty at March 27, 2007 8:52 AM

Laughed out loud at that shirt. I would wear it. Maybe we can get Franklin to do a version with Dolores.

I kind of like the meme too... hmmm.

Posted by: Ann at March 27, 2007 9:08 AM

Hahahaha!! That shirt is cracking me up. That girl is a riot.

Posted by: Cheryl at March 27, 2007 9:08 AM

Kids know just the right button to push now don't they...haha! Great shirt!

Do you know that growing up, I wanted to be a librarian too. I worked at one most of my early teen years.

Posted by: Kim at March 27, 2007 9:12 AM

Oh and look, the shirt is on sale. ;)

Posted by: susan at March 27, 2007 9:31 AM

That shirt is almost as adorable as Hannah. I just finished Pride and Prejudice for the first time. It amused me and I'm glad I read it but I doubt I'll ever read it again. The book I've read more than any other is Gone With The Wind. My current favorite authors: Jodi Picoult (My Sister's Keeper is a heartbreaker), Michael Connelly, Richard North Patterson, and David Baldacci.

Posted by: Chris at March 27, 2007 9:43 AM

I do homemade mac 'n cheese, too. I use half white cheddar, half monterey jack. Good stuff in cold weather! :-)

Posted by: Beth S. at March 27, 2007 9:49 AM

Nice interview. Love the T-shirt!

Posted by: Ina at March 27, 2007 9:49 AM

Heh-I love that shirt!
I've read several blogs that rate The Time Traveler's Wife quite well. I've been reading up a storm lately and will have to put that on my library list. Thanks for reminding me.

Posted by: Allison at March 27, 2007 9:51 AM

Have you read "Waiting for Snow in Havana" by Carlos Eire? It is currently my favorite book. I'm also still in love with all of Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Litte House" books---such a simple record of the everyday lives of women on the prairie.

Posted by: Brenda at March 27, 2007 10:09 AM

Very interesting interview. I read TTTW and liked it a lot, on the whole, but also had some reservations. I don't know if I could name my favorite book ever; there are too many books that I love, each in its own way.

The shirt is *priceless*. I'll be Miss B would like one of those, and I'm not buying her one either.

Did I tell you I've been put on a diet? I can't eat any of the food you mention.

Posted by: Lucia at March 27, 2007 10:10 AM

That's a fabulous shirt! The Time Traveler's Wife is way at the top of my list, too. *sniff*

Posted by: Chris at March 27, 2007 10:18 AM

May I have some questions? Please?!

Posted by: Miriam at March 27, 2007 10:26 AM

Beautiful picture of Hannah! Don't tell my husband about that shirt. heh I'm a lifelong fan of Gone With The Wind. All time favorite. I could read it again and again... oh... I have. hehe

Posted by: Laura at March 27, 2007 11:56 AM

I have to say that if I could choose a new career and WHIPPO like magic have completed the proper education, it would have to be library science. Either that or ballroom dance instructor, haha. Those would be jobs I KNOW I would love doing every day. Not that helping the sick and disabled is so terrible....
So jealous!

Posted by: Heather R. at March 27, 2007 12:38 PM

Is it wrong that I want to e-mail that photo to a few bloggers?

::angelface::

Posted by: Cookie at March 27, 2007 2:06 PM

Hannah, so untrue. Carole Knits is on my bloglines subscription. I drink my morning cup - 0 -joe and read. But I must admit, I do like the shirt!

Posted by: Lynette at March 27, 2007 2:08 PM

Hannah has such a sly smile on her teenaged face................bring on the mac 'n' cheese.........please!

Posted by: christine at March 27, 2007 3:24 PM

oooh, i loved the time traveler's wife! it was one of my first audiobooks and i spun 2 lbs of white laceweight yarn while i listened to it (that says a lot for how entranced i was bu it!).

Posted by: anne at March 27, 2007 4:46 PM

Oh dear, I am so glad my kids haven't found that shirt!!!

Posted by: Kirsten at March 27, 2007 5:30 PM

I LOVE The Time Traveler's Wife! It's one of a handful of books in which I became so deeply engrossed that I had difficulty separating my reality from the book. (Other examples were Dave King's The Haha, which I read in manuscript and which made me forget I could speak, and You're Not You by Michelle Wildgen, my darling book, where I had a hard time believing I could walk.)

Posted by: Anne at March 27, 2007 6:04 PM

What an excellent t-shirt....for a good laugh anyway. :-) I am interested by The Time Travelers Wife but I'm afraid to read it because of the sadness. Now, what does that say about me?!

Posted by: Angie at March 27, 2007 7:56 PM

I love learning more about my *favorite* bloggers! It's hard to be mad at so cute and pretty a daughter :)

Posted by: Debi at March 27, 2007 8:02 PM

I loved the time traveler's wife also. Tore at me as it became clearer what would happen.

Posted by: Laurie at March 27, 2007 8:14 PM

But, did you buy it for yourself?

Posted by: Kat at March 27, 2007 8:49 PM

Thanks for doing the interview! Lurv you answers.

Posted by: Susan at March 27, 2007 9:35 PM

Oh my, that is a great t-shirt! Why can't I think of these things??? :-)

I'd love to do an interview whenever you get a chance. I probably won't get to answering until next week anyway.

Posted by: Kristi aka Fiber Fool at March 28, 2007 10:55 AM

Haaaaa, that shirt is PRICELESS! I think you should go back & get it.

Posted by: carole at March 28, 2007 1:16 PM

I've been reading your blog for a week or two now, but not commented yet. The photo of your dd, the "look" on her face while standing by that t-shirt is worth a thousand words! ;-Þ

Posted by: Rennagayle at March 28, 2007 1:34 PM

Oh man, count me among the people who must have that shirt immediately.

I've never quite gotten around to the Time Traveler's Wife. It's on my list. Perhaps I will move it up on the list based on the strength of your recommendation.

Posted by: Rachel at March 28, 2007 9:48 PM

what a great post - I love reading your answers. and the photos of Hannah... absolutely perfect! I am laughing hard as I write. Such a 'normal' daughter's response.
did I ever tell you that I bought my daughter the pin that says "adult child of a knitter" and she wears it proudly every day on her jacket ?

Posted by: Teyani at March 28, 2007 10:09 PM

I LOVED Time Traveler's Wife, too! And it WAS sooooooo sad....
I wouldn't have found that book without our blogs - so, THAT's what I have to say about that t-shirt! I do SO care about YOUR blog, and MY blog, and all the other blogs! I LEARN so MUCH!
(((hugs)))

Posted by: knitnana at March 29, 2007 2:01 PM

That t-shirt is SO FUNNY!!

Although I love books, I'm more of a movie fiend, but seeing that your two favorite books are also my two favorite books made me feel like less of a reading loser. After all, if a librarian thinks those two books are great (as I do), then I'm not doing too bad in the reading world am I?

Posted by: ~Kristie at March 29, 2007 2:20 PM

Ha!!!!!!!!! That is a funny shirt! I've seen another around that says, "I'm going to blog about this..." that I like a lot! Heh!

Posted by: Elinor at March 30, 2007 11:27 PM

Hahahaha! Love the shirt!
