Wing of the Moth! Blocked!

You all came here today for photos of the finished Wing of the Moth Shawl, right? Well. Never let it be said that I disappoint my readers.

wombeer.jpg

Oh. That's not what you had in mind. So sorry. Truly, I submit that photo as proof that the shawl was worn to dinner on my birthday. It's also proof that Sam Adams Oktoberfest 2006 has arrived. Woot! Sadly, there are no other modeled shots, for various reasons including photographer availability, weather, and general laziness. You'll have to be satisfied with these.

Here's the specs because I know someone will ask.
Pattern: Anne's Wing of the Moth Shawl
Yarn: JaggerSpun Zephyr Wool Silk in Charcoal
Needles: Addi Size 3
Started August 25, 2006 and finished September 20, 2006. Before Cheryl. Just saying.

The Twin Leaf pattern is my favorite part.

Then again, I love this Corona Edging.

Honestly, though. This one is my favorite photo of the bunch.

Happy now?

Let me be the first to say, it's beautiful!

Posted by: Kathy at September 25, 2006 6:48 AM

It's just lovely, congrats on a stunning finish!

Posted by: Julie at September 25, 2006 6:49 AM

Gorgeous shawl!

Posted by: Kelly at September 25, 2006 6:51 AM

That last shot actually resembles a moth wing! Such a pretty shawl.

Posted by: Jan at September 25, 2006 7:16 AM

Oh, yes! Very happy. Thanks.

Posted by: Marcy, Not Blogless at September 25, 2006 7:18 AM

WOW!! It's wonderful.

Posted by: Karen at September 25, 2006 7:19 AM

Oooooh that turned out great!!!!!!!

Posted by: Jen at September 25, 2006 7:26 AM

Absolutely breathtaking! Gotta find some yarn for mine:)

Posted by: Alison at September 25, 2006 7:48 AM

Why yes, I am happy now, as you should be. It looks great, I really love it in black, and I wasn't sure I would. How big did it come out with the Zephyr?

Posted by: PumpkinMama at September 25, 2006 7:52 AM

Very pretty!

Posted by: liz at September 25, 2006 7:52 AM

It's fabulous! Sounds like you had a very nice weekend and a good birthday celebration, too! Way to go, grrl!

Posted by: margene at September 25, 2006 8:03 AM

I got to touch it! The shawl is lovely, Carole, as was lunch. Your taste in straight jacket yarn, however, leaves a lot to be desired.

Posted by: Adrian at September 25, 2006 8:16 AM

Wow, it's great! I am very impressed.

Posted by: molly! at September 25, 2006 8:20 AM

Congratulations, Carole!! It's gorgeous. Will it come to Rhinebeck? Will I be able to touch it, too???? ; )

Posted by: Vicki at September 25, 2006 8:23 AM

Beautiful. Does she avoid cedar wood blocks or lavendar being a moth and all?

Posted by: Dianna at September 25, 2006 8:23 AM

That last shot is fantastic! Love it. The Zephyr has gorgeous drape; I hope mine will too because of the silk in the yarn.

Well done.

Posted by: Cheryl at September 25, 2006 8:28 AM

I know I'm one of many to say that your shawl is absolutely gorgeous - I can't wait to see it modeled!

Posted by: Pat at September 25, 2006 8:31 AM

Hey, nice job! Now, what about the straight jacket you're picking out apparently tasteless yarn for?

Posted by: Chris at September 25, 2006 8:38 AM

It's just beautiful! I am so impressed-KF&B is not my favorite stitch to say the least.

Posted by: Heather R. at September 25, 2006 8:44 AM

Wow Carole!! It's so beautiful! I really have to make a shawl just to be able to wear something so beautiful. Maybe this will be the one?! Congratulations - it seemed like a speedy finish to me. :)

Posted by: Laura at September 25, 2006 8:44 AM

Beautiful shawl! Very stunning in a darker color. Enjoy!

Posted by: grumperina at September 25, 2006 8:47 AM

She's a beauty! Every woman deserves a gorgeous shawl to drink beer in, don't you think?

Posted by: Rachel at September 25, 2006 8:53 AM

It's so gorgeous in person, too. The drape, size and softness are so wonderful in the Zephyr.

Posted by: Monica at September 25, 2006 8:53 AM

It's really beautiful. What a treasure you have created.

Posted by: Grace at September 25, 2006 9:25 AM

Beautiful and great color!

Posted by: Karen at September 25, 2006 9:38 AM

It's so beautiful Carole! The yarn is just perfection and the knitting, suburb!

Posted by: Debi Leshin at September 25, 2006 9:52 AM

Your shawl is beautiful!! I love it.

Posted by: Alisha at September 25, 2006 9:54 AM

Absolutely beautiful, m'dear ;o)

Posted by: Jess at September 25, 2006 9:57 AM

Yes, very happy. ;)
It's so beautiful. Now we need a shot of you wearing it.

Posted by: susan at September 25, 2006 10:02 AM

Carole, it's beautiful! I hope one day to complete a shawl. I have Ella on the needles right now and it's in time out. Too many stitches on those needles for me at the moment.

I made some American chop suey the other night--it was delicious! Thanks for the "recipe". Or formula. =)

Posted by: katie at September 25, 2006 10:11 AM

Quite satisfied, thank you :) Really, it Gaw-geous. I love that last picture of it floating in the breeze too. A work of art.

And Sam Adams has an Octoberfest beer???? Must get some.

Posted by: jillian at September 25, 2006 10:22 AM

Ahhh, it's so pretty...... Well done, Chica!

Posted by: Norma at September 25, 2006 10:28 AM

Gorgeous!

Thought of you last night at the Crane Brook; specifically, thought it would be cool to have a knit gathering on the deck overlooking the pond, with a waitress to bring us beer. Expensive, but cool.

Posted by: Martha at September 25, 2006 10:43 AM

It's beautiful Carole! Every time I see one of your finished shawls I want to get the pattern myself. Now I'm adding Wing of the Moth to my list. My Swallowtail should be finished today, so there will be room on the needles for another shawl! Hmmmm. . .

Oh, and that Octoberfest looks yummy!

Posted by: Kirsten at September 25, 2006 11:27 AM

Gorgeous!

Posted by: Mindy at September 25, 2006 12:01 PM

It's really lovely Carole! Glad you had a good birthday and a finished shawl to boot!

Posted by: Wanda at September 25, 2006 12:39 PM

Very happy. Thank you. The shawl is gorgeous. I'll bet you both had a great time at birthday dinner.

Posted by: Stephanie at September 25, 2006 12:53 PM

The shawl looks beautiful. May I ask what the finished measurements were after blocking? I'm using the same yarn and size needles and am curious as to what I could expect.

Posted by: Helena at September 25, 2006 1:22 PM

Gorgeous! So glad it was finished and blocked for birthday wear!

Posted by: amanda at September 25, 2006 1:44 PM

It is just lovely. Well done you!

Posted by: Cookie at September 25, 2006 1:45 PM

Lovely, lovely, lovely!

Posted by: Leah at September 25, 2006 2:03 PM

The shawl is beautiful. Yours is the first one I've seen that wasn't knit with a mohair blend yarn, and the pattern shows up so well.
I'm going to assume from the half-empty beer glass that you had a great birthday dinner :)

Posted by: Rachel at September 25, 2006 2:04 PM

Very happy. Thanks! It's lovely.

Posted by: cari at September 25, 2006 4:24 PM

Beautiful! A photo of you modeling it would be a very nice bonus :-)

Posted by: Manise at September 25, 2006 5:08 PM

Gorgeous!

Posted by: ck at September 25, 2006 5:10 PM

That is truly gorgeous! Love that corona edge too, it goes so nicely with the twin leaves.
mmmm, beer!

Posted by: BigAlice at September 25, 2006 5:17 PM

So pretty! Brilliantly executed, the whole thing. (I would be even more impressed if you had opened the Sam before finishing the shawl, but I think you have your priorities straight.)

Posted by: Lucia at September 25, 2006 5:24 PM

Wow that beer really looked....sorry! The shawl is beautiful! Great job!

Posted by: Susan at September 25, 2006 7:12 PM

I'm late to the party, I see... but oh, is your shawl ever fabulous! :-) I love the way it knits up in Zephyr. Well done! And congrats! :-)

Posted by: Beth S. at September 25, 2006 7:23 PM

I am absolutely happy, and love the one with ol' Sam too, although I agree that the last one is the best; great shawl ambiance. The details of this shawl are so fantastic, and I am always in awe of your laceknitting abilities.

Posted by: Birdsong at September 25, 2006 9:33 PM

It is absolutely beautiful. I think it's time for my next shawl :)

Posted by: ana at September 25, 2006 9:45 PM

it is lovely Carole - I hope you plan on bringing it to Rhinebeck!

Posted by: ann at September 25, 2006 10:21 PM

Wow, that is just spectacular!

Posted by: Emily at September 25, 2006 11:51 PM

Its stunning Carole! And you knitted it so fast!

Posted by: Becky / Knitting Interrupted at September 26, 2006 12:17 AM

Wow! It is stunning. You did a fantastic job on it. (And a happy belated birthday - I'm slow as usual, what can I say?)

Posted by: Anne at September 26, 2006 8:20 AM

Your shawl is a show stopper ! wow.
and it sounds like the Knit Out was a blast. Amazing that it wasn't cold enough to wear Moth - but never fear, I think that weather is coming soon..
I'd be trying to bring winter on early if I had just finished a gorgeous shawl like that :-)

Posted by: Teyani at September 26, 2006 10:51 AM

Oh, wow - that is stunning! Way to go!

Posted by: Chris at September 26, 2006 11:34 AM

oh, yes..............gorgeous! I'm on the twin leaf pattern, and am adding a few crystal beads...it is for a wedding, after all. Needed some bling.

It is a great pattern, isn't it?

Posted by: christine at September 26, 2006 12:47 PM

I am gasping at the beauty of it! Just gorgeous, Carole! You are THE KNITTER. You are. Don't deny it anymore.

Posted by: sandy at September 26, 2006 4:48 PM

Gorgeous!

Posted by: Carrie K at September 26, 2006 6:55 PM

absolutely lovely....and the knit out makes me miss hingham just a little bit.

Posted by: Kathleen at September 26, 2006 7:22 PM

Carole, it is stunning! I have to say I like it so much better in zephyr than in mohair. So much so, that I may just have to break down and give it a try. How many yards did it take to finish?

Lovely.....and I love the Beer shot..haha!

Posted by: Kim at September 26, 2006 8:43 PM

Simply beautiful! I hope you wear it often.

Posted by: Leslie at September 28, 2006 6:27 PM

Ok it's beyond gorgeous - it's freaking breathtaking and I LOVE it in black = the color is awesome - looks beautiful.
